Language Arts, Social Studies, Creative Expressions


 


7th Grade Language Arts

Language Arts includes the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing.  7th grade Language Arts is a class with a strong emphasis on reading and writing. Through Reading Workshop students will learn strategies to increase comprehension of written material. They will be given individual opportunities to read books of their choice, as well as novels that will be read by the whole class.

Another key component of this class is the writing process which includes prewriting, composing, revising, editing, and publishing. In addition, students will work on vocabulary development and grammar. 


7th Grade Social Studies

Social Studies will study the Eastern Hemisphere, including Russia and the Independent Republics, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Antarctica. The land, economy, people, and geography will be covered in each of these areas of the world through the five themes in geography: human environment interaction, place, movement, location, and region.


7th Grade Creative Expressions

Creative Expressions is a class designed to give students an opportunity to express themselves through various ways (writing, speaking, drawing, etc.) Units of study include the following: poetry, cartooning, creative lettering, and calligraphy. If time allows other areas may be explored.


7th Grade Greek Mythology

This course covers some ancient Greek history and the impact the ancient Greeks had on western man. The main focus is Greek mythology including a study of the gods and goddesses. Students will read Ulysses by Bernard Evslin
