TOBACCO FREE SCHOOLS ACT
On September 1, 1993, Public Act 140 became effective in Michigan. This
law declared all public school facilities to be tobacco free.
The "Tobacco Free Schools Act" bans the use of tobacco products in all
buildings and on all properties owned or operated by our school
district. It prohibits the use of all forms of tobacco on school
grounds, buildings, parking lots, in school vehicles, and in private
vehicles on school premises.
This law is enforced by local police agencies. Violations constitute a
misdemeanor and can result in a fine up to $50.
Our staff is asked to assist in the communication of the law's
requirements to students, guests, parents, and other visitors to our
facilities.
